THE LARDER
Mrs Bird brings your group into the larder and reveals a letter sent by
Paddington to Aunt Lucy.
Paddington Voiceover:
Dear Aunt Lucy. As you’ll see from the date of this letter... it’s Marmalade
Day! The Browns have been very kind, helping me with the preparations.
And everyone has said "yes" to my invitation! All of this excitement
reminds me of the Marmalade Days we shared in Peru, Aunt Lucy. And
the marmalade machine, whirring and whizzing, making hundreds of jars
of marmalade. To bring us, as you always said, orange sunshine to last
all winter. I would wake at sunrise to start our search! I couldn’t wait to
bound to the top of the highest orange trees, to find the best fruit. Together,
we spent all day finding our orange treasure. Fruit that was “firm but
soft.” Firm but soft... for our Very Special Marmalade Making Machine!
Uncle Pastuzo would be sure to thank the Sun, the Seasons, and Mother
Nature for making every orange perfect on Marmalade Day! Mrs Bird
has kindly offered to make your marvellous Marmalade recipe today,
for all of my guests to enjoy. Although, she’s a little worried that, in the
whole of London, we may not find enough Peruvian oranges. But we’re
going to give it a jolly good try, to bring – as Mrs Bird says – “a wee
bit of Peruvian gold to London." I’ll make sure to pop a jar of Mrs Bird's
marmalade into my next letter, so that you can enjoy it with us. Happy
Marmalade Day, dear Aunt Lucy! Love, from Paddington.”
